New framework and practical outlook for European foreign investment regulations
~ Explanation of the European Commission's new regulation proposal and the regulatory environment of major countries ~

Investment projects by Japanese companies in Europe have remained steady in recent years, with Japanese companies clearly showing interest not only in traditional sectors such as manufacturing, automobiles, and chemicals, but also in new fields such as technology, life sciences, and energy. is increasing.
On the other hand, against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic and geopolitical risks, in order to prevent the leakage of our country's important resources and technology, we are taking measures to maintain national security, public order, and economic security (especially in cutting-edge fields). Reform of foreign investment regulations (inward direct investment regulations), such as making important sectors subject to prior screening, is an active trend in Europe as well.
In January 2024, the European Commission published a new draft regulation on the examination of inward direct investment in the European Union (EU) in order to address challenges in the current system, and it will introduce practical guidelines for investment into the EU. The impact is also noteworthy.
In this seminar, the lecturer, who has experience working at local law firms in the EU and the UK and is co-representative of the European office, will explain the latest trends in European foreign investment regulations and points to keep in mind when conducting M&A and investment in Europe.
