He has previously served as an expert researcher (for trade, investment and non-member country cooperation) at the Permanent Mission of Japan to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and as a principal in the research department at Mizuho Research and Technologies Co., Ltd., before assuming his current position. For around 30 years, he has been involved in research and policy analysis on trade, geopolitics and economic security, contributing to numerous books (co-authored books), giving lectures, appearing on television and radio, and serving as a member of external research groups and visiting researcher. He is currently a visiting researcher at the Institute for International Trade and Investment (ITI) and an academic member of the International Business Environment Committee of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
