After obtaining a doctorate in pharmacy in March 1999 (Hokkaido University), he joined Professor Dieter Soll at Yale University as a postdoctoral fellow in April of the same year. In 3, he joined Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. as a researcher at the Pharmaceutical Research Division, and in 4 transferred to the Axcelead Research Division, which was spun off from the company. In 2001 he joined Shionogi & Co., Ltd. where he is today.
In addition, he is a visiting professor at the University of Tsukuba, an outside director at FloraIndex Co., Ltd., an outside director at AdvanSentinel Co., Ltd., an AMED evaluation committee member, a JST area advisor, a director at the Japan Bioresource Industrial Use Council, and a vice chairman/director at the Japan Sewage Surveillance Association.
