FRONTEO, a data analysis company that makes full use of artificial intelligence, started its legal business in 2003.But legal business, especiallye-discovery supportThe international litigation support service called is still not well known in Japan, and unfortunately it is not well known. Therefore, this time, I would like to introduce the business contents and daily work from the perspective of employees who are actually involved in e-discovery support. The employee who reports this time is about involved in e-discovery10..Due to the business content of the international litigation support service, overseas business trips sometimes occur, but this time I will tell you about the situation of leaving for a business trip to San Francisco!

What is "e-discovery"?

Discovery (discovery) is a system unique to US proceedings in which both the defendant and the plaintiff disclose evidence, and the work of handling electronic data is called "e-discovery".Even if you are a Japanese company, if you are doing business in the United States, all the electronic data at the head office in Japan will be subject to disclosure as evidence, and FRONTEO is a one-stop service from identification and collection of electronic evidence to submission. It is provided in Japan. In this e-discovery support service, as a PM (project manager), I usually manage the entire project, such as responding to inquiries from clients and lawyers and requesting work to the in-house engineer team.

How did you get involved in eDiscovery?

I joined FRONTEO because I was attracted to the field of fraud investigation of digital data.At first, I was aspiring to be a forensic researcher, but after joining the company, I became more familiar with e-discovery support, and because of the fun of being involved in socially meaningful work and the fun of working as a team, e-discovery I wanted to be assigned to the support service department.Initially, I was in charge of evidence preservation work and process work as a PE (process engineer), but as I gained experience, I became eager to be involved in not only a part of the case but the whole, and changed my career to PM. I have reached the present. Even after becoming a PM, I feel that my experience as a PE is very useful because I can support engineers and communicate with clients from an engineer's perspective.

Rewarding in e-discovery support business

Since it is a site where mistakes cannot be tolerated, such as litigation support, it is a daily battle against tension and great pressure. However, the sense of fulfillment and accomplishment that their work can actually influence the outcome of the proceedings is irreplaceable, and it is a big thing that they are engaged in socially meaningful work due to the daily pressure. You can feel proud. In addition, discovery support is not completed by one person, but works as a team, so we can help each other with PE, other PMs, and overseas members, and work together. In particular, even with strict delivery dates, you can work well in teamwork by taking advantage of the time difference with the United States, so when you can deliver data smoothly, you will feel a great sense of accomplishment. The whole team can overcome it, and when the client highly evaluates the quick response, "Because the file arrives reliably in the morning, the negotiations on the next day were successful", the sense of accomplishment can be shared with all the members. Is very big.

Cooperation with overseas bases

Since discovery projects require cooperation not only with Japanese lawyers but also with overseas lawyers, there are frequent exchanges with overseas bases, and sometimes there are overseas business trips. This time, from the latter half of January, for about 1 months, we will support the American PM in cross-border projects and develop our own.Lit i ViewIt will be a long-term business trip to San Francisco for a lecture on the tool.I have been to many countries in Europe and Asia for conservation work, but this is my first business trip to the United States.I'm really looking forward to meeting the overseas members who usually communicate by email or phone. It was a forecast of heavy snow on the day of departure, so I was worried if I could depart on schedule ... I was worried, and the flight was cancelled.

The flight I was supposed to take

I started with the trouble of staying overnight at the airport, but I was able to arrive in San Francisco safely the next day. This time it's a relatively long time, so I'm a little worried, but I'm really looking forward to seeing my family in the middle of March. Now I am working hard to encourage it.
